PCORI is seeking Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) for Tier A projects through their Pipeline to Proposal Awards Initiative. This program supports the development of research ideas and proposals designed by partnerships of patients, caregivers, and other healthcare stakeholders. The deadline for submitting a letter of inquiry is Thursday, April 20.
The purpose of the Pipeline to Proposal (P2P) Awards program is to help people form new collaborations with the goal of developing proposals for research with sound scientific rigor and robust patient engagement. We are interested in research teams that include patients, caregivers, clinicians, and other healthcare stakeholders, as well as researchers.
Who should apply?
PCORI encourages those who are not usual candidates for research funding to apply for Tier A. This program is intended to support those individuals and groups with critically important ideas, who may not have other opportunities for funding. To qualify for Tier A funding, you must have demonstrated success in a past community-building project. Individuals or groups can receive this funding—no affiliation with a university or other organization is required.
How to apply?
The applicant must first submit a letter of inquiry (LOI). After reviewing the LOIs, PCORI will invite selected applicants to submit a more detailed proposal. The portal for submitting an LOI was opened on March 1, 2017. To access the portal go here: Pipeline to Proposal Awards Tier A Pre-Engagement/Community Projects. The portal will remain open for submission until April 20, 2017.
What support does the award provide?
PCORI provides up to $50,000 over the project term, which can last up to12 months.
What activities do PCORI Tier A awards fund?
Tier A awards fund the building of a partnership and an expansion of the skills necessary to develop a patient-centered CER project. Tier A awards are open to individuals and groups with an interest in a particular health issue. These awards will be used to fund activities that work toward developing research capacity, creating new partnerships, and building the infrastructure needed to conduct research. Activities might include workshops, roundtables, conferences, meetings, and other information-sharing tasks. Awardees will generate a list of CER questions that address the health issue of interest to those in the partnership.
