The Georgia Health Policy Center (GHPC) recently released its Making Connections series that explores the interaction of six key elements — access to care, the built and natural environment, insurance coverage, education, technology, and the economy — that contribute to the health and well-being of rural communities.
Persistent issues like higher rates of risky health behaviors, lower rates of health insurance coverage, and physician shortages are creating pressure on rural health systems, yet opportunities exist to intervene in order to improve care, enhance quality of life, and decrease costs.
Together, these challenges and innovative solutions tell the story of the interplay between well-being and factors both inside and outside of the traditional health care system that drive the opportunity for health achievement in rural communities.
GHPC has long-standing expertise in assisting rural communities to improve health and health care delivery in an effective and sustainable manner. GHPC created the Making Connections series as a supplement to its Understanding the Rural Landscape learning module to explore the range of elements that influence rural health.
