The Georgia Health Policy Center (GHPC) recently released its 2023 research accomplishments as part of implementation of its 2021-2025 Research Strategic Plan.
“As a university-based research center, GHPC recognizes the importance of disseminating its research for the greater good and to inform the broader field,” says Karen Minyard, Ph.D., GHPC’s CEO. “GHPC is committed to taking meaningful actions and to measure progress toward reaching its overarching research goals.”
In 2023, GHPC continued important steps to grow its research outputs, engagement, and impact through actions across three core strategies — developing human resource capacity, supportive infrastructure, and enabling financial resources.
Key 2023 accomplishments included:
- Disseminating findings: GHPC researchers published 17 new journal articles and book chapters and participated in 40 conference podium and poster presentations.
- Funding research: The center developed language to strengthen staff’s capacity to integrate research into funded projects at the proposal stage.
- Financially supporting staff’s research: The first two researchers participating in the internal GHPC Research Development Grant Program completed their original research projects and the center accepted proposals for 2024 research projects.
- Growing research engagement: The center collected input from staff to design a research mentorship program.
- Expanding research partnerships: The center actively expanded research and collaborative partnerships with faculty at Georgia State and other universities.
- Enhancing data access: The center provided access to new data sources for staff to conduct research, including from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project.
- Tracking impact: From 2017 to 2023, the center’s collective publications have been cited nearly 5,500 times!
Efforts in 2024 will focus on defining research mentoring opportunities for GHPC staff and to systematically identify learnings at the intersection at the problem-solving and research cycles for translation into peer-reviewed outputs.
