The Georgia Health Policy Center is proud to release its fourth Story of Impact.
In 2008, the Georgia Health Policy Center (GHPC) developed one of the first health policy education programs in the nation for state legislators and policymakers to grow health-related knowledge, understand how systems within and outside of traditional health care delivery are interconnected, and advance collaborative decision-making processes.
Since then, 140 legislators and key staff have earned certificates through the flagship Health Policy Certificate Program and 61 have earned commendations through the Advanced Policy Institute.
Participants in the program credit GHPC with improving the quality of conversations on committees, growing an understanding of what broadly drives health, and ultimately, helping to inform state policy decisions.
“Legislators on the health care committee come from all walks of life and may not have a health care background. GHPC provides topical support and helps us realize that different opinions are not wrong, says. Rep. Lee Hawkins, D.D.S., chairman House Committee on Health. “GHPC helps us build the skills to actually learn from each other, and this has helped my committees to make better decisions.”
GHPC has directly impacted the lives of people in local communities across the country and the globe. Through its research, evaluations, policy analysis, technical assistance, convenings, and trainings the center has lived its mission to advance health and well-being in thousands of local communities. GHPC’s Stories of Impact series highlights the scope and impact of the center’s work, the amazing partners we work with, and the people who are touched by the work of our dedicated staff.
