COVID-19 Work
The Georgia Health Policy Center (GHPC) is assisting our partners and stakeholders by providing clear, practical resources; responding to client requests; and facilitating important, strategic conversations about the impact of COVID-19.
Our researchers will be analyzing data and translating policy guidance as it emerges to inform immediate program and provider needs, while strategically assessing the potential impact for future decision-making and program planning.
GHPC’s COVID-19 work includes our online series Finding Innovation and Resilience During the COVID-19 Pandemic, the COVID Collection, and COVID-19 Resource Center.
Health Disparities Illuminated by the Pandemic
Researchers are studying the disparities illuminated by the pandemic, examining racial COVID-19 disparities occurring in Georgia, exploring some of the drivers of these differences, and assessing current practices and opportunities for closing the gap.
The Georgia Health Policy Center will continue to monitor infection rate and mortality data during the COVID-19 public health emergency and how emerging patterns of cases fit in the broader context of population health and health equity. Briefs will specifically address chronic disease disparities in urban versus rural areas and differences within specific counties, and examine in more detail the role of structural barriers and structural racism in creating health disparities, as well as how to address the systemic changes needed to achieve health equity in the state.

In an effort to continue our work and make a meaningful contribution, GHPC will engage key stakeholders to offer services and support in building awareness and getting to action. Next steps will include:
- Facilitating conversations with decision-makers
- Co-developing solutions with community members with lived experience to understand how inequities manifest and where potential leverage points exist
- Evaluating impact
GHPC’s staff is committed to meeting this challenge and will build upon our previous learnings, conversations, and evidence base to address inequities, remove barriers to optimal health, and embrace opportunities for meaningful systemic change.
