The Georgia Health Policy Center and the Ireland Health Research Board recently released an evidence review on dual diagnosis treatment service for people with co-occurring mental health and substance use issues. The Georgia Health Policy Center conducted the rapid realist review to better understand what elements of integrated services make it more likely that better treatment outcomes will be achieved.

If you are a policymaker; behavioral health or substance use provider, advocate, or researcher; or are interested in the application of realist methods, this book is for you. Learn how to make progress coordinating treatment services for co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders.

Educate. Donate. Motivate. Those are the goals of MySleevesUp.com, a new website launched by the Georgia REdHHoTT project, with support from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. MySleevesUp.com provides materials to share as we educate and motivate to increase minority blood donation and, ultimately, improve the lives of individuals with sickle cell disease. >>

The Georgia Health Policy Center leads the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s national initiative, Aligning Systems for Health: Health Care + Public Health + Social Services. GHPC is looking to support limited-term research and evaluation projects that examine alignment efforts already underway. >>

ARCHI, the Atlanta Regional Collaborative for Health Improvement, recently won the United Way of Greater Atlanta’s Working in Place Champion Award. The award recognizes an organization that demonstrates the most effective use of best practices in collaboration and place-based work. >>
The number of babies born in Georgia with sickle cell disease has remained relatively constant each year from 2004 to 2016. However, access to specialized sickle cell disease care remains a challenge for many of these babies born outside of larger cities, according to new findings from the Georgia Sickle Cell Data Collection Program. >>
The Georgia Health Policy Center is thrilled to announce that senior research associate Debbie Kibbe was one of five winners of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition’s 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award. >>

Researchers from the Georgia Health Policy Center and their partners in the Sickle Cell Data Collection program identified an improved case definition to identify pediatric sickle cell disease patients. Their findings are published in Public Health Reports>>
Nearly one in five patients treated for sickle cell disease in Georgia receive nonscheduled blood transfusions at multiple hospital sites over time, potentially increasing their risk for serious complications, according to a study published July 18 in Pediatric Blood & Cancer. >>

Cobb & Douglas Public Health has been awarded up to $5.5 million over the next five years through a Healthy Start grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. >>
In real-world clinical practice, the CenteringPregnancy model of group prenatal care is effective at lowering the risk of preterm birth and low birthweight, according to a study published in the Maternal and Child Health Journal. >>
