Building Research Expertise Across Teams for Health Equity
Building Research Expertise Across Teams for Health Equity
The RISE (Research Innovation and Scholarly Excellence) Challenge at Georgia State University is building interdisciplinary teams of faculty to develop transformative research at the university. By bringing together complementary strengths within the research community, RISE projects will be able to address complex problems through an interdisciplinary lens.
The Georgia Health Policy Center (GHPC) was awarded a RISE grant within the Data Science for Health and Equity hub, with the goal of pushing this data technology forward to find solutions in public health and neuroscience while laying the groundwork for equity. Specifically, GHPC’s Building Research Expertise Across Teams for Health Equity (BREATHE) is a collaboration among GHPC and faculty and graduate students from across Georgia State, including the Byrdine F. Lewis School of Nursing and Health Professions, the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences, and the departments of Public Policy & Management and Economics within the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies. The work will capitalize on the Sickle Cell Data Collection Program by bringing together patients with researchers, clinicians and public health epidemiologists to leverage the data to further equity, treatment progress, and pain science for people with sickle cell disease.
