Community Health Worker Workforce Development
Community Health Worker Workforce Development
The American Public Health Association defines a community health worker (CHW) as a frontline public health worker who is a trusted lay member of and has a close understanding of the community served. This trusting relationship enables the CHW to serve as a key point of connection to link individuals in the community with needed health and social services.
ARCHI, housed at the Georgia Health Policy Center, provides strategic support for the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Community Health Worker Initiative to further develop the state’s workforce through capacity building, training, and certification. Trainings focus on core community health worker competencies, chronic disease management, and COVID-19.
Additionally, ARCHI provides technical assistance for CHWs employed through the Community Resource Hub pilots. These CHWs support identified patients who are having challenges managing their chronic conditions. The CHWs assess the patients’ unmet social and economic needs and link patients to Community Resource Hub partner network that can provide services to meet the clients’ needs.
