Georgia Alzheimer and Related Dementias State Plan
Georgia Alzheimer and Related Dementias State Plan
In 2013, the Georgia General Assembly created a multidisciplinary task force to assess the state’s current and future ability to provide necessary services and programs for Georgians impacted by cognitive decline and dementia, and recommended steps to catalyze movement toward dementia capability. This culminated in the 2014 Georgia Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (GARD) State Plan.
In 2020, the Georgia Health Policy Center assisted the Georgia Department of Human Services’ Division of Aging Services (DAS) to support the update of the GARD State Plan. The process included reviewing other state’s plans, documenting achievements, recommending changes to the format of the plan, and collecting and synthesizing input from the GARD Advisory Council, work group committee members, stakeholders, and consumers. The GARD State Plan addresses six priority areas including research and data, workforce development, service delivery, public safety, outreach and partnership, and policy.
