Policy Intensive for Medical Students
Policy Intensive for Medical Students
Medical students can complement their clinical learning by gaining an understanding of the health care policy and financing landscape. Such an understanding will develop their leadership voice and understand the implications of policy on the way in which they will practice medicine.
The Georgia Health Policy Center has been conducting policy intensives for first-year medical students at Augusta University. The interactive curriculum is designed to provide students with both information and policy development experience in the core areas of using data and information, current health issues and policymaking in Georgia, systems thinking and modeling, and conversational capacity. Additional learning and a self-selected special policy project occur in a chosen interest area (e.g., health equity, Medicaid and health care financing, behavioral health, maternal health, and rural or urban health).
